It was love at first swipe for this week’s White Lily bride Sarah and her husband Lee. From the dating app bumble to her husband-to-be’s bumblebee socks on their big day, we were swept away by their beautiful love story.
A Royal Proposal
“We were on holiday in Norway and decided to walk from our hotel along the Oslo fjord to the Viking Ship Museum (we love hiking together). In Norway, you can walk through properties as long as you are respectful and close the gates so we walked through the royal family's summer palace garden and stopped at a small table and chairs overlooking the water. He proposed there and I must have cried for about five minutes straight before I was able to give him an answer”
Timeless Howard Smith Wharves Reception
When planning their wedding, Sarah and Lee “didn’t have a set theme in mind,” but knew that they wanted to keep things timeless. Through soft pinks and neutral tones, they brought to life a modern classic dream for their Howard Smith Wharves wedding.
Sarah’s Favourite Wedding Vendors
The Baker Boys Band, Mrs Gibbons Flowers, and Simply Divine Occasions exceeded Sarah and Lee’s expectations! The band went above and beyond for the reception with their live music and DJ that had everyone out of their seats. “They really made the atmosphere amazing!” Mrs Gibbons Flowers were incredibly responsive and catered to every request, bringing each venue to life with their lush floral arrangements. “The flowers were so stunning we've decided to get some preserved.” Another stand out was the talented Natasha from Simply Divine Occasions. “Her cakes are to die for and we kept eating cake after our wedding day.”
The First Dance
“It's hard to pick one part of the day, but I'd have to say our first dance to the song 'Dreams' by The Cranberries. We took dance lessons in the lead up and it was so much fun getting to show off our new moves. The Baker Boys Band learned and performed this for us which made it really special.”
One Gown, Three Looks
Sarah said yes to JOVANI by Stella York and along with her White Lily consultant and the team at Ella Moda, she took her wedding dress to the next level by creating three different looks! For her ceremony, she created a timeless off-the-shoulder gown by wrapping a band of the same fabric across her bust and arms. “It was perfect.” For the reception, she took off the band and added the CHER overskirt by Rosa Clara. With tiered tulle, it is the ultimate wow factor, and gave Sarah “the princess feeling”. "Everyone loved it and thought I'd completely changed dresses. I loved how I felt in my dress! The specialist advice I received at White Lily made my look completely unique. I couldn't have done without the guidance, I would never have considered the options without my consultant's help.”
Sarah’s Advice
When asked if she had any advice for couples planning their big day, Sarah recommended scheduling ten minutes alone together at some stage on the wedding day. “It goes by so quickly and having ten minutes just the two of us allowed us to stop, enjoy the moment and take it all in.”
Navigating a Covid Wedding
Sarah and Lee took planning a wedding during Covid in their stride. Although they had to postpone, they were so glad they did and made the most out of the extra time to plan. “My advice would be to invite only the people you truly want there on the day. We had limited numbers we could seat inside due to Covid which made things tricky (as we made the call not to have anyone seated outside) but on the day it meant we could take time to speak with everyone, get photos with them and really enjoy everyone's company.”
Now that you have moved onto the next chapter of your life, what is your favourite thing about being married?
“I love that nothing has changed.”
