Imagine having your big day canceled less than a week before your wedding date! COVID threw more than one curveball at Andrea and Adrian, yet nothing could stop them from fulfilling their dreams of having the perfect wedding day.
When Andrea met Adrian on Bumble in late August 2018, it didn’t take her long to realise that Adrian was The One. Despite Adrian’s tough schedule working FIFO, 4 weeks-away, the Brisbane couple was engaged within six months of meeting each other. The power of dating platforms, right?!
Before meeting Adrian, Andrea had never put much thought into getting married. Hence, when it got to their planning stage, she had no idea where to start. Both of them just wanted to have a fun, memorable, and special day with their friends and family. Andrea also mentioned that it was important to her to have a unique wedding day, which wasn’t really like any other wedding she had been to before. Unique it was, indeed! At this stage, the Brisbane couple had no idea that COVID was going to affect their plans, majorly.
As mentioned above, Andrea and Adrian’s wedding day couldn’t have been scheduled for a worse date: “Our original wedding date was the 28th of March, so weddings were effectively cancelled by ScoMo the Sunday before. We had guests from interstate with us already, so they had to leave on the Monday to get back home before their state borders closed.” Going ahead with a smaller ceremony or eloping instead wasn’t an option for the two.Hence, Andrea and Adrian’s big day ended up being pushed back until the 5th of September: “It made it even more special to be there with our family and friends, and it almost felt like a double celebration - we are finally married AND we survived the Rona!” Moral of the story: being patient during uncertain times pays off and can allow us to create something even more special!
Now, let’s talk about Andrea’s wedding dress! When Andrea arrived in our Brisbane boutique, she wasn’t quite sure what style she would like. But with help from our stylist Connie, she was able to discover and fall in love with FAUN by Nicole Milano: “I loved how the design flattered my shape, the gorgeous low back, and how it was modern but still elegant. I really loved the beautiful lace and beading, especially the detail on the straps. It was also comfortable to wear all day.” You will have to scroll down and look at the photos of Andrea in her dream bridal gown -Just stunning!
Upon asking Andrea what the most memorable part of the day was, she remembers thinking “…we actually made it!!” We can only imagine, what a relieve that must have been. Since their wedding was one of the first social events people had attended post-lockdown, Andrea also remembers that the atmosphere was even more fun and celebratory, than they had hoped for. It was a gorgeous sunny day and it all came together beautifully. Despite her mum stepping on the back of her dress and causing one last moment of panic, it turned out to be a magical day (the dress was fine btw. Phew!) Happy bride, happy us!
Being a prime example of having to go through stressful wedding planning, Andrea’s advices to trust your vendors and to not stress about little details: “..if you hire great vendors just let them do what they're good at and take their advice. For example, I knew I loved flowers and wanted our day full of bright flowers, but I didn't know what would be in season or exactly what design, etc would look best. So I just spoke with our florist, told her the sorts of colours I would like, and let her have free reign. Our flowers were absolutely stunning and we got so many compliments; our florist knew what would look best and I think it shows. “ Andrea also emphasises the importance of asking your venue directly about restrictions: “Don't post on Facebook groups or ask your friends their opinions on restrictions - each venue has different restrictions to adhere to and only they can tell you about them.”Oh, and a DJ! The Brisbane couple says that hiring a DJ was one of the best decisions they made, so they could just sit back and enjoy the day. We all love a good Dj!
Now, that Andrea and Adrian’s wedding day has passed they are looking forward to spending their lives together, in their beautiful home, as husband and wife. Hopefully one day soon, they are hoping to go on their honeymoon in Europe: “…but for now, life is just great.”
