When love goes back a long way, you know the story is going to be good. This week’s White Lily bride Michelle met her now-husband, Charles, at the young age of 15, in 2006. 15 years of laughter, 15 years of memories, and 15 years of looking forward to becoming husband and wife. What started off as occasionally bumping into each other at festivals, gyms, and other random places, eventually turned out to be the perfect score of 18 strokes: ”…we went to Victoria Parklands for Putt-Putt. We only made it to the 10th hole where they ended up sitting on the benches talking until the park closed. Although after a long period of what I like to refer to as our “on and off footy season”, in the end, it was our 2nd 1st date that cemented our future together. After lots of sake bombs and a tonne of laughs, Charles bought me a commemorative plate for a laugh; but has now become somewhat of a tradition.”
With Michelle’s family living in the Philippines, Charles originally planned to propose on NYE on the beach of Boracay. After the island got shut down for rehabilitation, Charles had to come up with a plan B: “Throughout our trip in the Philippines, Charlie carried the ring and tried to hide it from me. He had attempted to propose on two different occasions on our trip, before third time lucky. The first time we were on the Island Palawan on a boat cruise where we were sitting in the clear blue water and there was a walkout to a sandbank. Charlie had asked me to go for a walk, but I replied with it’s too hot I don’t want to go for a walk. The second time he had organised a horse ride that was supposed to go along the beach to which he would propose. With the rehabilitations in place, they were unable to go along the beach anymore. We ended up riding these poor old horses through the back of the suburbs. After two failed attempts he had organised a private sunset yacht cruise on NY day. At about 7 am NY day I woke up with the worst food poisoning… It came to about 3 pm in the afternoon and I was starting to feel better. I was able to bring the strength to get ready and head out on the private yacht. Finally, on the yacht, he had played our song and proposed while watching the sunset…”
An Elegant Queensland Countryside Wedding
Michelle had been planning her wedding from the age of 20 and knew exactly what she envisioned for her special day. A simple yet elegant wedding with subtle decor and an all-white bridal party:“ I’m not crazy about bold colours and wanted something plain and simple.” All-white florals, an old-timer parked out the front, stunning views of the Queensland countryside, and fairy lights to shimmer the night away. Captured by Lovelenscapes Photography and White Lace Films, Michelle and Charles’ wedding was pure elegance: “The most memorable part of the wedding day was our individual photos, tracking through the long grass and just having a laugh together. It was honestly the best time and our photos capture it as well.”
When Covid took it’s turn
“Unfortunately, we were supposed to get married last year on June 7th, 2020. Of course, I was devastated and heartbroken that we didn’t get to celebrate our special day. However, we were able to see the bright side and then focus on what we could control. We had originally looked to buy a new property the following year, so we switched our plans, and instead of getting married, we bought our new property. We were able to save more funds during the extra year. My advice would be try to be positive, everything will fall in its place and work out.”
Zavana Couture Bridal Dreams
With a wedding day as elegant as Michelle’s, it only seemed fitting to go for a gown with all-over beading. Our White Lily bride ended up falling in love with the long-sleeved mermaid bridal gown, MARQUISE, by Zavana Couture: “I loved the beading and detail of the dress and the options for a second look with the detachable skirt.”
Michelle & Charles
After 15 years of knowing each other, Michelle and Charles finally got to seal their bond for life. Not only was their dream wedding everything the couple has hoped for, but it also built the foundation for their next chapter, as husband and wife.
Complete the sentence: Being married means having someone I can rely on 100% of the time. Someone that will always have my back and support me in all the decisions I make whether they are right or wrong.
Knowing that Michelle has found her person, she is looking forward to having Charles as the father of her children. She also couldn’t be more excited to keep exploring their future and going on their next adventures, as now husband and wife.
